Health food supplements including vitamins, minerals, herbal & plant extracts, synbiotics and enzymes, can help treatment and recovery from Long COVID for many people.
READ OUR TOP RECOMMENDATIONSGuide to the treatment and recovery from Long COVID with supplements

Long COVID (or Long Haul COVID) is a growing concern for many people. It can last for weeks and months, and for some people over a year. There is a growing need to find solutions to this problem.
Considering how important this issue is to tens of thousands of people, we felt that it was worth exploring if supplements (known as health food / herbal / vitamin supplements in the UK or nutraceutical / dietary supplements in the US) could offer an inexpensive and ‘Generally Recognised As Safe’ (GRAS) approach to treat and recover from Long COVID.
The results were mixed:
Some helped significantly however,
Some had no observed effect.
Thus it was important to choose carefully.
In this page we present the results of our testing, which shortlisted 16 from a total list of over 100.
Please read on to find out more, or jump to our top recommendations below.
You may also read our section below “Can supplements really help with medical conditions?” which compares the differences between the UK and German healthcare systems. You might be surprised to find out that in contrast to the UK, German doctors, nurses and pharmacists are trained in and can prescribe herbal supplements.

RecoverUp has been recommended by Long COVID patients, healthcare practitioners and our own team (based on personal experience).
British front-line critical care and functional medicine Doctor Krige gave feedback on RecoverUp, “This has the potential to be an efficient initial option for all those with prolonged COVID-19 symptoms ... I think [it] would be a useful baseline starter for most patients with no safety concerns”.
Registered Dietitian Dr Mabel Blades stated, “... the nutrients and bioactives which are found in RecoverUp appear to have a possible positive association with the amelioration of the symptoms ... found in long-COVID. While all the items in the supplements can be purchased from various sources it is helpful to have the combination provided."

Feedback showed that 200mg per day was enough to provide noticeable and helpful energy level improvements, which are short-term (usually for the day). Criteria for selecting supplements for Long COVID treatment

Supplements were classed as including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, plant bioactives, enzymes and synbiotics (probiotics and prebiotics). Plant bioactives include herbals and botanicals.
We focused our research for supplements that could be effective for the long term effects (‘Long COVID’) from the recent 2020-2021 outbreak of SARS-CoV-2. We also looked at supplements that could help with recovery from related forms of infection such as SARS, MERS and influenza. We also studied what worked for CFS/ME.

Long COVID recovery supplements: safety

Please note that all of the supplements on this page can generally be taken in conjunction with other medications given by your GP, Physician or healthcare professional, as they are considered equivalent to food in the UK (under Department of Health regulations) or GRAS (Generally Recognised As Safe) in the US (under FDA regulations).
Supplements Dosage

Please note that dosage is important - and if something is helping your Long COVID symptoms, that doesn’t mean taking more will be helpful. Always start with a small dose and work your way to higher doses gradually, to allow your body time to adjust to the new nutrients / vitamins being consumed.
