What is Long COVID?

Long COVID is a longer, more complex form of COVID-19. It can also be referred to as 'Long Haul COVID' or 'Post-COVID Syndrome'.

Long COVID is a unique disease in that patient-led groups have been amongst the first to bring awareness to this illness.

Long COVID Symptoms

Most common symptoms

The following graph shows the most common Long COVID symptoms by percentage of people who experience each symptom for at least five weeks, as a result of contracting COVID-19.

How long do Long COVID symptoms last?

The road to recovery from Long COVID is not always easy. For some, it can take weeks and for others it can take months. So far there are no precise rules to how long the symptoms last for, with a large variance observed. Long COVID does appear to be a persistent condition for many.

Often people with Long COVID find that they seem to make an initial recovery, with lessening of symptoms, but then later (weeks or months later) begin to experience a relapse or flare up of symptoms, and this can cause some distress.

Factors that influence the presentation of symptoms include: severity of initial infection, age, sex, underlying conditions, genetics and environment.

Factors that can shorten the time to recovery include (1) lifestyle changes & medication (2) nutritional supplementation (3) one to one healthcare consultations.
